Student Ambassador Program (SAP)
Earth Day 2021 Virtual Education
Spring 2021, TreesCO2 has pivoted from in-person student tree planting field trips to virtual environment and tree planting education due to COVID-19. For Earth Day, TreesCO2 hosted 2 in-person events, reaching over 200 students and is sharing the resources below from 3 of our amazing partners, Project Forest, Flash Forest and Forests Ontario! We hope fellow students as well as teachers, enjoy learning about conventional tree planting, drone tree planting, and all about trees! We see these videos as a trailer for in-person tree planting field trips hopefully next Fall. The content complements science, geography and social studies classes, as well as Eco Club agendas. Please feel free to share with your school, friends and family to celebrate Earth Day!
Mike Toffan, Founder & Manager of Project Forest, is here with an amazing presentation about seeds, seed timing, breaking seed dormancy and the process of taking the seed and sowing the seeds in a nursery to create an extractable seedling ready for planting. In addition, Mike presents an overview of Project Forest and their planting projects at Golden Ranches and the Swan First Nation Reserve. Project Forest prides itself in using local seeds to grow the right trees in Alberta.
Cameron Jones, COO and Co-founder and Greg Crossley, Director of Engineering teamed up to give us a super exciting introduction to Flash Forest’s drone tree planting. Flash Forest is a Canadian reforestation company that uses UAV technology, automation and ecological science to regenerate ecosystems on a global scale. At full capacity, Flash Forest aims to plant 100,000 seed pods per day with the supervision of two UAV operators. Watch this video to learn more about how Flash Forest does it!
Forests Ontario strives to be the voice of Ontario’s forests by supporting forest restoration, stewardship, education and awareness. Their ambitious tree planting initiatives, extensive education programs and decades of community outreach have resulted in millions of trees being planted each year. Check out the short educational video (linked above) and some super fun tree activities for students:
